Hello Friends!

Today is a big day for Molly Jacques Illustration -- Today is the launch of Great Lakes Lettering, a foundry collaboration between myself and font designer Dathan Boardman.

Keep an eye out for more hand lettered fonts soon to be released!  Our first font, called FROSTED, is up for sale now.

Paired with hand illustrated wreaths and flourishes, this font is a folksy handwriting that mimics the natural stroke of 

the pointed calligraphy pen.

LOVE VS. DESIGN

 

Hello friends!  I'm so excited to announce that my designs for Love vs. Design's featured artists program are now up!

NEW SPACE

For any of you out there who follow my Pinterest, you might have noticed my new board "Brand Inspired".  The reason for my Pinterest expansion is because of this new gem.... an actual studio space!  I've been working from home for a while now, and have been complaining to my husband, Cody, how I need some social interaction (talk to any from-home freelancers and I'm sure they will agree to some days never even walking outside!).  That said, Cody (who is also a fine artist and grad student in the Kendall College MFA program) and I are moving all our artsy things into this new space in the heart of Grand Rapids.

For anyone living in Michigan (especially GR), expect some fun new lettering workshops here in the future along with figure painting demos and classes from Cody!  This new space definitely needs a little TLC, but it'll be up and running in no time at all =)

HOLIDAY CARDS

Recently I've been getting emails asking about holiday card designs (I know, I know, it's only September.... But thinking about these things ahead of time is ALWAYS a good idea!).  That said, I thought it would be fun to post a DIY tutorial on how to create some fun, custom Holiday cards for you and your family!  These are really cute because they look like a present packaged up nicely with a personalized tag to each recipient.  Fun, right?  Here's what you'll need...

 

SUPPLIES:

• Black Ribbon

• To and From Tag Stamp

• Folded Kraft Cards

• A cute family photo

• Scissors

• A dip pen or a regular ball point pen in black

• Black Ink

• Double Sided Tape

• White Gift Tags

• Black Ink Pad (for stamping)

STEP ONE:

On what will be the inside of your card, adhere your photo with the double-sided tape so it is centered  and slightly placed towards the top.

Write out a personalized note to the recipient under your photo with either your dip pen and black ink or your ball point pen and black ink.

STEP TWO:

Close your card to reveal the outside front.

Use your To and From Tag stamp and black ink pad to stamp your white gift tag.

STEP THREE:

Tie your card together as if it were a present (it kinda is, though!).

Adorn with your freshly stamped tag to complete the 'gift' look.

You're all finished!  Now, stick 'em in an envelope, address, and ship!  For outer envelope calligrapher service, feel free to shoot me a message... with plenty of time to spare before the holidays, of course ;-)
